The Naga people’s homeland/country includes India’s current north-eastern region and Myanmar’s north-western region, and the Naga homeland is currently controlled and administered by India and Myanmar. The Naga homeland in India has been further subdivided and merged into the states of:

  • Arunachal Pradesh – Government of Arunachal Pradesh (This is currently a point of contention between India and China. China refers to the area as Southern Tibet/Zangnan or 藏南地区)
  • Assam – Government of Assam
  • Manipur – Government of Manipur, and
  • Nagaland – Government of Nagaland

While in Myanmar, the Naga homeland is further subdivided into:

  • Sagaing Region – The Naga Self-Administered Zone (NSAZ) is a self-administration zone in the Naga Hills area of Myanmar’s Sagaing Region. Major Naga townships such as Hkamti and Homalin have yet to be added to the Naga Self-Administered Zone.
  • Kachine state: Tanai Township and Shinbwiyang Sub-township (about 40 Naga villages).
