The International Council of Naga Affairs (ICNA) provides a platform for Naga and global affairs researchers, scholars, and practitioners to publish analyses on Naga and geopolitical issues such as the economy, defense and security, environment, politics, trade, and public policy.

We accept pitches and manuscripts from new contributors who want to have their work read by an international audience of academics, policymakers, businesspeople, and others who rely on ICNA for thoughtful, non-partisan, and insightful analysis of today’s most pressing global and Naga issues on a rolling basis rather than on a set editorial calendar. All submissions should include complete contact information as well as a brief note describing the author’s background.

Contributor Guidelines:

Situation Report / Briefings: Web-only features
On our website, we publish analysis, and opinion “briefings” on situational and current events. We are particularly interested in articles that will be of interest and importance to policymakers, both in the Naga Homeland and on a global scale. Briefings are typically 1,000-1,500 words long. They should go beyond the basic facts to provide context and insight into current events and policy debates for our readers. Opinions may be expressed in briefings, but they should not be shrill or strident in tone. They should be timely but also relevant outside of the news cycle.

In-Depth Articles / Research & Analysis: Web-only features
We publish in-depth articles. In-depth articles are 3,500 words long and take a more comprehensive and in-depth look at an issue, often through original reporting/analysis. We welcome unsolicited articles on Naga and global issues such as the economy, defense and security, environment, politics, trade, and public policy from writers, researchers, and journalists.

Most Recent News Stories: Web-only features
We accept the most recent situation news stories. The ideal length for a news story is 600 words. Instead of attempting to wrap multiple, complex stories into a lengthy mainbar, they should address one main idea or theme.

Notes on Formatting and Editorial Style

  • All submissions should be single-spaced, Microsoft Word (doc/docx) attachments attached to an email rather than pasted into the message body.
  • Although submissions may include a preferred headline, we reserve the right to change it before the Web-only publication.
  • In-line hyperlinks are required when acknowledging sources or making references, as they greatly aid our internal fact-checking process.
  • Please only send in articles that have not previously been published.

Though we welcome any suitable article for publication, we do not pay for unprompted outside submissions. The ICNA web-only features publishing policy for Situation reports and In-Depth Articles is as follows:

  • Before web-only features are published, all submissions will be reviewed by independent experts.
  • If you don’t hear back within five days, you’re rejected.

All editorial inquiries and submissions should be sent to: submissions@nagaaffairs.org with the subject line For Situation Report / Briefings or For In-Depth Articles.
