Public Appeal: Peaceful Resolution of the 75-year old Indo-Naga Political Problem

The Global Naga Forum (GNF) stated in a press release that “We often wonder about the global community’s silence for so long on the treatment of the Nagas by India and Myanmar. We feel strongly that speaking out against grievous wrongs committed on any people, including the weak and marginalized, and righting the wrongs, is the shared responsibility of the global community. If human rights perpetrator-States cannot be held accountable by the international community, of what use is civilization to the indigenous peoples of the world?”

Indo-Naga Political Conflict: A Joint Political Statement

Our Nation is militarized and subjected to political and social suppression and most dehumanizing oppression. Left with no option but to defend our political, social, religious and economic rights, we have resorted to confront and resist the occupational military forces of India and Burma. We implore upon the International Community to humanly intervene in the violations of human rights in our Naga country, recognize our legitimate political, social, economic and religious rights as enshrined in the United Nations’ Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.

Nagas Are Moving Ahead

Now the RSS and the BJP are rewriting our history. They are telling us who we are and who we must become. You don’t need me to tell you that their version of the Naga story is wrong; it is utter nonsense. We must fight intelligently and with evidence. To say that the missionaries instigated the Nagas to fight for independence is an insult to our civilization. It ignores the passion for freedom and self-rule that defined the very being and humanity of our ancestors.

Borders do more than keep people out; they define the line, but the Nagas continue to stand as ‘One People, One Nation’

A border, at its most basic, is a line that separates us from them. In other words, borders are political boundaries. Nonetheless, despite numerous tactics and pressures on the Naga people based on the imposed political boundary in the Naga homeland, the Nagas have not failed to assist and work together on various situations/events, and they have continued to stand as ‘One People, One Nation,’ writes Augustine R.
