Recent developments in the Russia-Ukraine conflict:

According to Macron’s office, President Putin and French President Macron spoke for 90 minutes on February 28, 2022, and President Macron asked the Russian leader to stop attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, as well as secure major roadways, particularly the road from the south of Kyiv. “President Putin confirmed his willingness to make commitments on these three points,” the statement said.

According to a Kremlin readout of the February 28, 2022 call, Vladimir Putin emphasized that a settlement is only possible if Russia’s legitimate security interests are unconditionally taken into account, including the recognition of Russian sovereignty over Crimea, the demilitarization and denazification of the Ukrainian state, and the maintenance of its neutral status.
