Naga independence turns 76 as the Naga people commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Naga Declaration of Independence

The declaration of Naga independence (1947) and the Naga Plebiscite (1951) were two major decisions made by the Naga people. The result of these efforts is a remarkable document that is still a source of inspiration for many Nagas and a source of contention for India and Myanmar to this day.

Rethinking the Indo-Naga Political Negotiation

To conduct meaningful Indo-Naga political negotiations, both India and the Nagas may require flexibility, the pragmatism of the highest order, and a thorough understanding of the problems and issues at stake. India and the Naga people must look beyond their primary (immediate) concerns to resolve the more than seven-decade-old issue, and if they are unable to do so, they must consider inviting a third party/country mediator.
